Your Favorites - YGO/Pokemon/Whatever
This is something Misdreavus and I have been entertaining ourselves with lately... and it's probably something you're familiar with.
The idea is to find a blank "favorite meme" template, and fill it in with your personal picks. For example, the first one I did was "favorite yugioh card by type," and I had a lot of fun with it.
Not really any specific rules for this thread, except that posting blank templates alongside your completed ones is encouraged. As a courtesy, it's also nice to specify the size of the squares that exist in the template, so they know what size they should format their pictures to, but it's not required. If you want to provide a small write-up of your choices, so much the better, but I'd encourage you to use the SPOILER tags, simply to keep large walls of text from clogging this thread.
I hope you guys enjoy doing this as much as we do!

Re: Your Favorites - YGO/Pokemon/Whatever
This is my "favorite pokemon by type" set. Some brief history/nostalgia (probably not something you'd be interested in reading, but here it is anyway)
- Reasoning and stuff:
Umbreon: My favorite pokemon. The first games I ever played through beginning to end were Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, both of which star Umbreon in a fashion; Colosseum alongside Espeon (who I also love) and in XD you can pick which eeveelution you want. Obviously I picked Umbreon... It was my first level 100, it's the oldest pokemon I have, and it's the only pokemon I've ever named after myself.
Garchomp: I just view it as the most badass Dragon-type, and Cynthia is my favorite Champion and she uses Garchomp. I think the land shark design is interesting, the typing is neat (STAB Earthquake is so cool ^__^) and it's pretty strong... Hate the Mega-evo though.
Pachirisu: just a "cute" pick... I kinda have a thing for squirrels anyway, and I like to teach Pachirisu Magnet Rise because it's hilarious
Gardevoir: another from-Pokemon-XD choice. I played through the game with my sister, so we each got 3 of the 6 for the team. Mine were Umbreon, Gardevoir, and Walrein... And then Gardevoir's Mega evolution came along and it's one of my favorites. Now I use a shiny one because the mega-evo looks siiiiiicccckkkkk
Gallade: a weird choice, but it's one of the reasons I love Sinnoh as much as I do. I played through the Sinnoh region a total of 4 times, and each time I would transfer my Gallade over after completion, because he had False Swipe and it made catching the legendaries of the region painfully easy. Hashtag nostalgia.
Chandelure: one of my favorite pokemon in existance currently, and another of the few good things to come out of Unova's generation. There's really not much I don't love about it... My only complaint is that it's Flamethrower attack isn't specially animated purple in the games.
Staraptor: I actually disliked Starly starting out on Pokemon Pearl, I only included it temporarily (the Flying I wanted was Drifblim...) However, as the game progressed and my Starly became Staravia and eventually Staraptor, I couldn't stomach the idea of dropping it. Although I did go back and get a Drifblim later, Staraptor has since my go-to badass bird. I used him in Pearl and ended up using another one for my playthrough of Pokemon X.
Mismagius: the Mismagius I use currently is named Shade for whatever reason. I spent a lot of time in the post-game of HeartGold, beating Red and things of that nature, but in MT Silver many high level wild pokemon can be found, including Misdreavus! For whatever reason I didn't use Mismagius in its debut game, but after finding its first form in HeartGold, Shade has carried with me through Unova and into Kalos. She's actually taken down my brother's Giratina before...
Meganium: Although I did play through Sapphire when I was little, and Pearl when it was released, I fell out of the Pokemon franchise for a while after losing my copy of Pearl (which I later found, thankfully.) The game that sucked me back in was HeartGold, and my starter was Chikorita. I felt a lot more invested in Leaf (the name is unfortunately STILL Leaf, even though Meganium isn't particularly leafy...) than my previous starters. It's still my favorite starter, and sometimes I like to take Meganium into Elite Four Malta's chamber, simply because my Grass starter Earthquaking the Fire types in there is kind of satisfying. Another memory with my Meganium was breeding it over 400 times in an attempt to hatch a shiny... Needless to say, I have boxes and boxes of Chikorita hatchlings -__-
Mamoswine: I'm afraid I don't have a huge backstory for this guy... I just think he's neatly designed and I enjoy how giant he is. He's cuddly but fearsome!
Walrein: Already touched on him; he was one of my original XD trio. I still have that very same Walrein, and I indeed use him often. Thick Fat is one of the most interesting abilities to me, I enjoy switching him into Ice/Fire attacks.
Stoutland: He was actually one of the things that convinced me to buy Black in the first place. I named him after my dog at the time, who has since died... kind of strange that this pokemon's namesake is gone but he has the capacity to "live" indefinitely. Slightly eerie, yes? I think it's just part of Stoutland's charm, and yes, he does remind me of the dog he's named after sometimes, so that's nice.
Crobat: He's overall the most recent addition to my "favorites" collection (outside of the stuff I got in X) I didn't particularly like Crobat before Black 2; in that game I was pressed to find a Flying, and I was already crawling in the Castelia Sewers knee-deep in Zubat anyway... I realized that, despite the sheer number of Zubat I've encountered throughout all of the games, I'd never caught and raised one, so I thought 'what the hell' and gave it a shot. Turns out, Crobat could actually hold his own; the Poison stuff was helpful, and I grew attached to him. Now Poison is one of my favorite types, and I think Cyde the Crobat helped cultivate that. (I named him Cyde because of the -cide suffix on words like 'insecticide,' the y was just to be... different)
Starmie: Not too much to say about Starmie, I have a shiny one that I use as a spinner if the need arises, and I think Water/Psychic is one of the most interesting dual types in the games
Bastiodon: another oldie from my Pearl playthrough. I was always fascinated by the anime's Bastiodon vs Rampardos battles, which me and my sister frequently mirrored since she had a Rampardos on her team. I love how he can learn Blizzard, additionally.
Metagross: I was interested in Metagross after watching the Destiny Deoxys movie at least 100 times, and after battling Steven Stone in Sapphire. His typing is awesome, he looks great, and I'm extremely excited for the Hoenn remakes so I can use him with a mega evolution!
Last but not least, Jellicent: Another gem from the newer wave of awesome Ghost-types. I don't particularly like the Female forme, but it's neat that Jellicent has two distinct sexes. I'll always use the blue one though; his mustache is indeed unforgettable
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand. Here's the yugioh one:

Re: Your Favorites - YGO/Pokemon/Whatever
I guess I should post mine as well hmmm?
- A short explanation:
- Bug: Shuckle, the mold Pokémon. It takes Patrick Star to a new level, living inside a rock instead of beneath is, so that it can take its home anywhere it wants with its stunning speed even by NU standards. How I wanted to place this in the Rock category, but that was only possible if I could somehow find a Bug Pokémon that's cuter than Shuckle! All in all Shuckle is an outstanding Pokémon because of its extreme stat distribution and silly (splendid) design. One of the most demanding Pokémon I ever raised (along with Wobbuffet), after going through the trouble of catching one: it's very unfortunate that the one you are given to take care of is to be returned soon after...
- Dark: Sneasel! It took me more than 100 hour of playtime before I could finally catch one, and all the time my rival was rubbing his version in my face when I challenged the elite four on an unfortunate day... I never used it on Pokémon Gold when I finally got it - it's not like there's much more to do when you reach Mt. Silver - but I made up for it in later games. A sexy Pokémon with an excellent colour scheme (I have no idea why it needed the ice typing though).
- Dragon: Dragonair, the dragon that's not just badass, but endearing in its own way. Dragons are not for me...
- Electric: Rotom, a Pokémon that takes control of electronic devices to cause mischief... That's a great idea for a Ghost Pokémon! Give it an okay artwork, some unique and not so well executed alternate formes with powerful attacks and all-around good stats, and you have a Pokémon that is a pleasure to use both in-game and in a more serious environment. Did I mention the card "Charon's Choice" in the TCG? We're talking a Pokémon with lore here!
- Fairy: Mr. Mime! It's twisted, it's weird, it's scary! Add to it that it made a brilliant addition to my Baton Pass team before butthurt Smogon users made the strategy unplayable, and you can see why it deserves a spot among my favourites.
- Fighting: Monferno, the monkey with facepaint... He looks pretty cool don't you think? Moving on.
- Fire: Lampent, the lamp Pokémon (how original). Ghost? Check! Scary Will-O-Wisp artwork? Check! Also one of the few Pokémon that made generation V games worth playing; Chandelure looks a bit silly however if you ask me - it's a shame. I should add that I've been asking for a candle Pokémon (as well as a pumpkin Pokémon by the way) since generation III, so it's only logical that I took a liking to Hitomoshi and its evolutions when it was finally revealed.
- Flying: Xatu, the sun gazer. Based on that part of history that Americans should and may be proud of, and the requirements for a similar design fit this bird perfectly.
- Ghost: Misdreavus - didn't see that coming eh? A ghost that, although it tries to appear mean and evil, turns out to be nice and fun-loving after all. It's a Pokémon I like to identify with for several reasons
- Grass: Tangela, the hentai Pokémon. For those who ever played the generation I games, where there was only one "Special" stat, which for Tangela counted up to 100... Tangela was a monster! And just look at those stylish shoes! Its place may soon be taken by one of the generation VI Ghost types, but for now let's enjoy this hopefully not too ticklish spaghetti monster, and its lovely footwear.
- Ground: Cubone, the lonely Pokémon... He'll make it, no worries: its loss has made it strong, and sooner or later it will find a partner that accepts it for who it is, and refind its child inside; don't we all want that?
- Ice: Jynx, the humanshape Pokémon, which does anything Santa tells her to do... Apart from my love for strange Pokémon (to a certain extent Gothitelle dear), Jynx's uses in a somewhat competiitve environment are another reason for me to consider her of such importance, as Lovely Kiss and Nasty Plot on a Pokémon as fast as Jynx, form a deadly combination. Did I mention that her ability gives her a niche even in Ubers? Lastly being a Dutchman I no like no other how she feels for being considered racist - poor thing, don't let those clueless overly caring grannies bother you!
- Normal: Dunsparce, the flying snake thingy. Flying snakes appear in mythology all over the world, but I have never seen an interpretation of the concept as lame as Dunsparce: the Homer Simpson among flying snakes, it disappears backwards in the hedge ehm... ground when it spots danger, and probably doesn't take care of its children itself. I had to call my Dunsparce Lemon Pie in Pokémon Y, considered that it'd be pretty sad to call a female Pokémon Homer... Still, this little snake has a serene grace if I may call it that, in that it still has some sort of niche in the serious environment's very lowest tier - in fact it has the potential to become quite the monster! And what's better than sweeping a team with a bold fatty high on Red Bull and Duff Beer? Somewhere deep inside, we all enjoy it when we do not simply defeat our opponent, but stomp them into oblivion with just the silliest possible strategy! The humiliation! Well... Actually I find Dunsparce pretty cool, but I'm making a point here.
- Poison: Haunter, the gas Pokémon. Did it just blow up a bomb in its own face? And did 4Kids not censor it? Can it juggle its own eyes using... its tongue? Judging by their abilities in the anime, Ghost Pokémon are pretty OP - Haunter even has floating hands that will catch you wherever you were trying to hide! Yup, it has a pretty neat design indeed!
- Psychic: Unown, the symbol Pokémon. We all know that by themselves Unown have little use, even though they come with the mysterious move Hidden Power, and stats comparable to Mega Lucario's (it's a 1:2 ratio); when more of them come together they can create giant thunderstorms! Just like Pikachu! And many more things: levitating and moving in the most orderly mathematical patterns, while being pretty much invincible, Unown can be responsible for rather bad nightmares! Oh, and they live in a different dimension and only appear in ancient tombs that hold the gates to such a place... The story of Unown has still so much that can be explored; unlike its competitve potential, which is held back by its not so muscular physical physique...
- Rock: Kabuto, a hard choice (get it? Rock?). After a lot of thinking the Pokémon that evolves from the insanely cool Mysterious Fossil (well, it was cool ten years ago...), and evolves into the super special awesome Kabutops (whose renewed Sugimori art was so disappointing that it did not make it to this list itself) seemed like a good candidate for this spot. I still find it funny that it learns Absorb.
- Steel: Mawile, the deceiver Pokémon, who else? Mawile is one of those fantastic designs the games have seen over the many generations, and fitted my Baton Pass team perfectly even without a Mega Evolution! Enough reason to deserve a spot here.
- Water: Tentacruel! Ah, jellyfish... So majestic, so beautiful... Yet very dangerous, and sometimes even deadly. I woud mention a perfect symmetrical design, a basic but fitting colour scheme, and a hat that gives Samus Aran nightmares, but I don't think it's hard to see why Tentacruel is the final addition.

I actually don't have a blank template for the yugioh one (you can just save mine and lay your images over the ones I used if you like,) but here's the pokemon one we used: https://i.imgur.com/lfpBOQY.jpg
(the boxes are 225x197 in most cases. You may have to shrink the final product so it links correctly on this forum)
also, for your pokemon one, using images from the pokemon TCG turns out so much better than the standard ones on bulbapedia.
