Guide and Discussion: Inzektor Empty I. Briefing.

Post by Aitch Wed Jun 18, 2014 8:04 pm

I. Briefing
After a long wait, this is the Insect archetype bug fans were finally given.  And what an archetype it is! Inzektors are an archetype of DARK Insect type monsters that made their debut in Order of Chaos (ORCS) and gained more support in Galactic Overlord (GAOV). They have a striking resemblance to Kamen Riders. They work by equipping each other (somewhat similar to Dragunity) and gaining effects when the equipped monster is sent to the graveyard. So far, all the low level Inzektor are able to equip an Inzektor from the graveyard and when they're equipped alter the level of the Inzektor they are equipped to.  The high level Inzektors are able to equip themselves to grant powerful stat boosts and additional effects.  Following the hits made to the deck in September 2012 and the loss of Sangan in March 2013 the evolving meta has forced Inzektors to evolve along with it. Inzektors are a hardy archetype and have weathered the storm well making use of techs such as Cardcar D with Insect Imitation to increase consistency or Summoner Monk to increase explosiveness.  During late 2013 early 2014 "Deep Draw" style decks became more popular incorporating Upstart Goblin and Reckless Greed to power through the deck.  Most recently other variants have emerged either using Artifacts to increase disruption and allow for more rank 5 plays or using Mathematician to load the grave and go off with Soul Charge or Call Of The Haunted or to set up for an explosive play quicker.

The archetype is incredibly versatile and has maintained decent rogue status ever since its fall from dominance.

Guide and Discussion: Inzektor Empty II. The Inzektors

Post by Aitch Wed Jun 18, 2014 8:05 pm

II. The Inzektors
Inzektor Dragonfly
***
DARK / Insect
1000ATK / 1800DEF
Once per turn: You can equip 1 "Inzektor" monster in your hand or Graveyard to this card. While this card is equipped to a monster, increase the equipped monster's Level by 3. If an Equip Card equipped to this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Inzektor" monster from Deck, except "Inzektor Dragonfly".

Spoiler:
THE most important card in the deck. It enables the Inzektor player to toolbox their entire main deck and when combined with Inzektor Hornet, it allows the Inzektor duelist to suddenly create a plethora of advantage from two cards alone. This is performed by equipping Inzektor Hornet to this card and then using Hornet to destroy a card. This then triggers Dragonfly's second effect, summoning another Inzektor, usually Inzektor Centipede. This is one of many key plays. This card also enables the infamous OTKs by abusing both Inzektor Hornet and Inzektor Giga-Mantis/Inzektor Sword - Zektkaliber. The 1800 DEF can prove useful against monsters with low ATK.  In the emerging meta it is likely that your opponent won’t be able to beat over it on their first turn or will choose to leave it be assuming it’s something like a Fire Hand or Ice Hand.  Waboku also allows for easy setting of this card and then allowing your opponent to flip it for you avoiding pesky traps. Dragonfly can be used with Inzektor Ladybug for an easy rank 4 or rank 5 summon.

Run as many copies allowed, no questions asked.

Inzektor Centipede
***
DARK / Insect
1600ATK / 1200DEF
Once per turn: You can equip 1 "Inzektor" monster in your hand or Graveyard to this card. While this card is equipped to a monster, increase the equipped monster's Level by 3. If an Equip Card equipped to this card is sent to the Graveyard: You can add 1 "Inzektor" card from your Deck to your hand.

Spoiler:
Most decks have some sort of consistency card; this is ours. Inzektor Centipede allows us to search out the combo pieces we're missing, often by triggering this card's effect with Inzektor Hornet. This card is often used to grab Inzektor Giga-Mantis or Inzektor Sword - Zektkaliber to grind or go for an OTK.  This card allows us to dig for Inzektor Dragonfly if we don’t already have it.
With 1600 ATK, he has a decent body to begin with and equipping this card with Hornet puts it up to a formidable 2100 ATK points. This presence can also prevent your opponent from committing cards to the board without feeling the consequences because if they can't remove the Hornet, you're going to get to use it next turn.
Once equipped with Sword he is a 2400 beatstick that will return himself or another Inzektor to your hand upon destruction. A force to be reckoned with.

Run the maximum number of copies you can at all times.

Inzektor Hornet
***
DARK / Insect
500 ATK / 200 DEF
Once per turn: You can equip 1 "Inzektor" monster in your hand or Graveyard to this card. While this card is equipped to a monster, increase the equipped monster's Level by 3, and the equipped monster gains ATK and DEF equal to this card's ATK and DEF, respectively. You can send this Equip Card to the Graveyard to target 1 card on the field; destroy it.

Spoiler:
This is another mandatory part of the Inzektor deck. He is a simple +1 when equipped from the graveyard to Inzektor Dragonfly or Inzektor Centipede, allowing the player to generate a mass of advantage through destroying the opponent's cards and bolstering the user's own card advantage. This is also the enabler of the OTKs this deck can pull off.

Run as many copies allowed. The strength and versatility of this card mean that while Inzektor Hornet or Inzektor Dragonfly aren't forbidden it's very unlikely the other will ever be more than limited.  There is a debate about whether Hornet being banned and Dragonfly being at 3 would create a more fun deck to play as it would be a very versatile rank 4/5 toolbox deck.

Inzektor Ladybug
**
DARK / Insect
500 ATK / 100 DEF
Once per turn: You can equip 1 "Inzektor" monster from your hand or Graveyard to this card. A monster equipped with this card increases its Level by 2 and gains ATK and DEF equal to this card's respective ATK and DEF. You can send this Equip card to the Graveyard to target 1 monster you control and increase its Level by up to 2.

Spoiler:
This card brought something Inzektors needed: An effective, powerful play that they can use while the opponent isn't committing to the field.
Consider the fact it's effect triggers Inzektor Dragonfly and Inzektor Centipede easily and simply, as with Inzektor Hopper and Inzektor Hornet. Combined with Inzektor Dragonfly, this gives you access to a powerful toolbox of Xyz monsters including Number 61: Volcasaurus, Tiras, Keeper of Genesis and Full Armored Crystal Zero Lancer (via Number 19: Freezadon).

Run 2-3. With Hornet at 1 this is our only option to have maximum consistency, thus 3 is advised however in a hybrid deck 2 could be deemed acceptable. In combination with Insect Imitation it can be a quick way to grab Inzektor Dragonfly or Inzektor Hornet.

Inzektor Hopper
****
DARK / Insect
1700ATK / 1400DEF
Once per turn: You can equip 1 "Inzektor" monster from your hand or Graveyard to this card. While this card is equipped to a monster, that monster's Level is increased by 4. While this card is equipped to a monster: You can send this Equip Card to the Graveyard; the monster it was equipped to can attack your opponent directly this turn. Other monsters cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.

Spoiler:
Hopper was our TCG exclusive support in ORCS. Unfortunately, it wasn't something quite as game-breaking as Evolzar Dolkka or Wind-Up Shark, but it does have its merits. This card isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's usefulness does go up now that Dragonfly and Hornet are at 1. With Zektkaliber, this card is turned into a 2500 beater, add a Hornet and you've got a pretty massive bug on your hands.

Run 0-1. With the deck being able to search itself out very quickly using Inzektor Centipede, Inzektor Hopper provides additional search targets meaning you will run out of resources slower.  He’s also useful in accessing rank 4s.

Inzektor Giga-Mantis
******
DARK / Insect
2400 ATK / 0 DEF
You can target 1 face-up "Inzektor" monster you control; equip this card from your hand to that target. While this card is equipped to a monster, that monster's original ATK becomes 2400. If this card is sent to the Graveyard while equipped to a monster: You can target 1 "Inzektor" monster in your Graveyard except "Inzektor Giga-Mantis"; Special Summon that target. This effect of "Inzektor Giga-Mantis" can only be used once per turn.

Spoiler:
Inzektor Giga-Mantis is the most powerful base ATK monster in the entire Inzektor archetype. Consider him like an equip card; simply boosting any Inzektor monster to 2400 ATK. The simple pressure a 2400 beat stick exerts can allow you to quickly reduce your opponent's life points. For example, if you have an Inzektor Centipede equipped with this card, and an Inzektor Hornet in the Graveyard, you are likely to get direct hits in very easily; ending the duel in as little as four turns. He is even able to equip himself under Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror. Use this fact to your advantage. You can summon an Inzektor monster, and activate its effect to equip this card. Your opponent, expecting Hornet, is likely to drop Effect Veiler, and then you can just follow it up with this card, meaning your opponent is down one Effect Veiler and you have lost nothing. Pay attention to this second effect though. This can be a powerful OTK tool combined with Inzektor Dragonfly, and is also potent with Inzektor Centipede. Just pop him with Inzektor Hornet.

Run 1. If there is the need for more strength multiple copies may prove more useful than in the past. Use 3 and you'll be dead drawing it.

Inzektor Giga-Weevil
******
DARK / Insect
0 ATK / 2600 DEF
You can target 1 face-up "Inzektor" monster you control; equip this card from your hand to that target. While this card is equipped to a monster, that monster's original DEF becomes 2600. If this card is sent to the Graveyard while equipped to a monster: You can target 1 "Inzektor" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target. This effect of "Inzektor Giga-Weevil" can only be used once per turn.

Spoiler:
Inzektor Giga-Weevil is the shield to the Inzektor  Giga-Mantis's sword. It is mainly only ever used for its second effect (an effect used due to the fact that Inzektor Giga-Mantis only works once per turn.) It is also the easiest way to feasibly bring out Inzektor Exa-Beetle in this deck.

This is where a few Inzektor duelists have been known to disagree. There is no doubt it is the superior OTK weapon to Inzektor Sword - Zektkaliber, but many prefer Inzektor Sword - Zektkaliber for it’s reusable ability in the case of not exploding and for searchable grind-game tools. Inzektor Giga-Weevil is a more explosive weapon that can be tribute set to screw up a couple of decks (evilswarms) for an occasional odd play, but is primarily used in fast OTK decks. The better OCG Inzektor decks run 1 of this card.

Run 0-1. It’s your choice between it and the second or even first sword.

Inzektor Exa-Beetle
******
DARK / Insect
1000 ATK / 1000 DEF
2 Level 6 monsters
When this card is Xyz Summoned: You can equip 1 monster from either player's Graveyard to this card. This card gains ATK and DEF equal to half of the Equip Card's ATK and DEF, respectively. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 face-up card you control and 1 face-up card your opponent controls; send them to the Graveyard.

Spoiler:
HEY! A BOSS CARD! If you use his effect to equip Giga-Mantis to it from the Graveyard, its ATK will increase to 2400; after that, Beetle's effect will add a further 1200 ATK points, meaning he'll boast a powerful 3600 ATK. (Weevil boasts a 3900 defense.) His Scrap Dragon-esque effect is also able to allow you to get rid of pesky cards that avoid destruction due to the word "send" being used instead of destroy. It'll also trigger the second effects of Inzektor Giga-Mantis and Inzektor Giga-Weevil.

Run 0, card is jank.

Inzektor Exa-Stag
DARK / Insect
800 ATK / 800 DEF
2 Level 5 Monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card and target 1 monster your opponent controls or in your opponent's Graveyard; equip that target to this card. This card gains ATK and DEF equal to half the respective ATK and DEF of the equipped monster.

Spoiler:
The second boss, and easier to summon with Inzektor Ladybug's help.  Basically used to remove annoying cards from the field or the grave. It does have the same attack benefits Inzektor Exa-Beetle gains from using Inzektor Giga-Mantis or Inzektor Giga-Weevil.

Run 1, provides rank 5 options and the ability to mess with the opponent's graveyard removing important targets.

Guide and Discussion: Inzektor Empty III. The Weapons.

Post by Aitch Wed Jun 18, 2014 8:13 pm

III. The Weapons
Inzektor Sword - Zektkaliber
Equip Spell
Equip only to an "Inzektor" monster. The equipped monster gains 800 ATK and DEF. when this face-up card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: Add 1 "Inzektor" monster from your Graveyard to your hand.
+800 ATK is fantastic. Another perk about this card is that it can never miss the timing, just like all the other Inzektor cards. This also turns any Inzektor monster into a floater; allowing you to get back Dragonfly from the Graveyard.

Spoiler:

Use 1-2. Three leads to dead draws. You can also use 0, if you elect to. A lot of players only play 1.

Inzektor Axe - Zetahawk
Equip Spell
Equip only to an "Inzektor" monster. It gains 1000 ATK. When the equipped monster declares an attack, your opponent cannot activate Spell/Trap Cards.

Spoiler:
This card is not to be used for it’s spell trap immunity effect, you should already have cleared any response to attack backrow.

Run 0.

Guide and Discussion: Inzektor Empty IV. The Outside Help.

Post by Aitch Wed Jun 18, 2014 8:15 pm

IV. The Outside Help
Threatening Roar / Waboku
Run 0-3 of each or either. There was formerly no debate about Threatening Roar being better than Waboku due to cards that go off after battle.  Waboku provides protection for monsters in battle so can protect a set Inzektor and allow you to go off in the next turn.  Currently Waboku is considered the superior of the 2 cards.

Spoiler:

Foolish Burial
Run 1, do you even need to ask?

Spoiler:

Card Trooper
Gets you 3 cards closer to the bottom of the deck. If you hit spells and traps that means you're drawing monsters. If you hit monster that means you're drawing spells and traps. It turns a set CotH into a +1 if your opponent tries to blind MST it. Most players have moved away from this in favor of builds with more reliable search methods.  Run 0 or 2.

Spoiler:

Call of the Haunted
Allows you to extend combos after detaching Dragonfly or Centipede from an Xyz monster. Turns your opponent's MST into a -1 for them if you call back Trooper with it.  Run 3.

Spoiler:

Cardcar D
With Roar and Waboku, there's no need to be scared of OTKs. This allows you dig through your deck for combo pieces early. This is also one of the main constituents of the Imitation engine allowing you to turn it onto a Dragonfly or Centipede should it have Effect Veiler used on it. A successful resolution to its effect is generally a plus 1. All Deep Draw builds are running 2-3.

Spoiler:

Allure of Darkenss
While it may look appealing at first you need every single monster you can get your hands on. More worthwhile in Monk builds.

Spoiler:

Dark Armed Dragon
This is a bit of a controversial tech card. It’s powerful, but known for being an early and late game dead draw. It has its uses vs rogue decks and Mermails.
Run 0-1.

Spoiler:

Armageddon Knight
Another way to get Hornet into the grave early. Combos amazingly with Summoner Monk and Lavalval Chain to make a reasonable turbo build. Vulnerable to Effect Veiler, although if they use it on this they're not using it on Dragonfly or Centipede.
Run 0-2. If you run Monk run this.

Spoiler:

Summoner Monk
With the release of Lavalval Chain he opens up the possibility of a decent turbo build where you summon Armageddon Knight to ditch Hornet then Xyz into Lavalval Chain and stack Dragonfly for next turn. This guy is an engine option. If you run Cardcar it's inadvisable to try to fit this in too. If not this card isn’t a terrible option to have. Gets wrecked by Veiler.
Run 0 or 2.

Spoiler:

Maxx "C"
Popularity fluctuates with the meta.  In a meta centered around spamming monsters to the field it can gain you huge plusses, however in a stun match it's likely to be a dead draw or a 1 for 1.  It should feature either in the side or in the main of any Inzektor deck. It is also another Imitation target.
Run 2-3. (In main or side).

Spoiler:

Upstart Goblin
Inzektors can achieve high life point OTK thresholds just with a couple of cards meaning that Upstart Goblin is a viable option to power through the deck for combo pieces.  A must in Deep Draw builds.
Run 0-3.

Spoiler:

Reckless Greed
Another card used in Deep Draw builds to power through the deck for combo pieces, the reasoning being that if you can get enough of the pieces together in the turns you miss drawing using Centipede/Dragonfly then the skipped draws are mitigated.  A must for Deep Draw builds.
Run 0 or 3.

Spoiler:

Howling Insect
A battle searcher that allows you to recruit Dragonfly and combos amazingly with Verdant Sanctuary.  Weak to monster removal thanks to being a battle searcher.
Run 0-3 ideally in combination with Gokipon and Verdant Sanctuary.

Spoiler:

Gokipon
Lets you search for any insect in your deck giving you good access to your Inzektors, Howling Insect and Maxx "C".
Run 1-2 in Sanctuary builds.

Spoiler:

Verdant Sanctuary
A very interesting tech that combos very well with Howling Insect and Gokipon allowing you to collect combo pieces very quickly.  Interestingly enough it works when your monsters are popped with monster removal, meaning you could theoretically use Hornet to pop your own monster to search other combo pieces.
Run 2-3 in Sanctuary builds.

Spoiler:

Creature Swap
A potential tech in Sanctuary builds that will allow you to use your battle searchers while taking monsters from your opponent.

Spoiler:

Insect Imitation
While Technically a -1 this card can be used to save awful hands or extend combos.  It can also lead to horrific topdecks.  Use at your own risk.
Run 0-3.

Spoiler:

Traptrix Myrmeleo / Traptrix Dionaea / Traptrix Trap Hole Nightmare
TTHN is a good meta call at the moment and Dio and Myrm allow for an engine to search it through.  Also has syngergy with Insect Imitation if you choose to run it.

Spoiler:

Mathematician
Allows a quick ditch of anything in your deck other than Giga-Mantis allowing you to grab together your combo pieces even quicker.

Spoiler:

Mystical Space Typhoon
Now this card is a little special in this deck.  As well as functioning as your multipurpose spell and trap removal it can enable your OTK.  Yes that's right, you can use MST on something equipped to a Centipede or Dragonfly to get the ball rolling and win the game.  As such it was recommended at 2-3 in most builds.  While using MST to go for the OTK can be cool it's also not recommended as forcing the OTK too early can lead you into sticky situations.  In the current meta situation it’s most likely best in the side to deal with sided floodgates.

Spoiler:

Staple spells and traps should be given consideration as they allow the deck time to grab together combo pieces.  Inzektors are known for their great variety of potential tech options, never underestimate their ability to come up with something new.

Here are some viable Spell and Trap inclusions:
Pot of Duality, Dark Hole, Book of Moon, Forbidden Lance

Trap Stun, Fiendish Chain, Bottomless Trap Hole, Compulsory Evacuation Device, Solemn Warning, Torrential Tribute, Mirror Force, Dimensional Prison, The Transmigration Prophecy, Divine Wrath

Side Deck Suggestions:
Dust Tornado, Imperial Iron Wall, Gozen Match, Soul Drain, Dimensional Fissure, Rivalry of Warlords, DNA Surgery, Effect Veiler, D.D. Crow, Fencing Fire Ferret, Light-Imprisoning Mirror, Dust Tornado, Twister

Extra Deck Suggestions:
Gaia Dragon, the Thunder Charger, Tiras, Keeper of Genesis, Adreus, Keeper of Armageddon, Inzektor Exa-Stag, Gagaga Cowboy, Wind-Up Zenmaines, Wind-Up Arsenal Zenmaioh, Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction,Number 61: Volcasaurus, Lavalval Chain, Number 19: Freezadon, Full Armored - Crystal Zero Lancer, Abyss Dweller, Ghostrick Alucard, Leviair the Sea Dragon, Number 17: Leviathan Dragon, Mechquipped Angineer

Guide and Discussion: Inzektor Empty VI. Rulings.

Post by Aitch Wed Jun 18, 2014 8:31 pm

VI. Rulings.
Stardust Dragon vs. Inzektor Hornet
Sending Hornet to the grave is a cost. Therefore, it isn't on the field when the effect resolves. Stardust Dragon CAN chain to the effect, but Inzektor Hornet is already in the grave so it doesn't destroy Hornet, but it will negate it. The effect of Dragonfly or Centipede still triggers.

Book of Moon vs. Inzektors
If Book of Moon is used in response to the summon if an Inzektor monster, then you do not get the chance to activate its effect, due to Player Priority on Ignition Effects not existing anymore. If you activate Book of Moon at the resolution of an Inzektor monster's effect, then the equipped Inzektor will fall of and the additional effects of the Inzektor monster that was flipped face-down will not trigger. If Book of Moon is activated in the same chain as Dragonfly's or Centipede's additional effect, they will still get the effect. Book will flip the monster down first, and then the effect will go off.

Dimensional Fissure / Macro Cosmos vs. Inzektor Hornet
If Dimensional Fissure is active, the effect of Inzektor Hornet can still be activated as it's being sent to the Graveyard as an Equip Spell and not a monster. You cannot activate Hornet's effect while Macro Cosmos is face-up on the field as you cannot send it to grave since every card would be banished instead.

Black Rose Dragon vs. Inzektor equipped with Giga-Mantis
In the case in which Inzektor Giga-Mantis is equipped to an Inzektor monster and both are destroyed simultaneously by the effect of Black Rose Dragon, the effect of Giga-Mantis will activate. However, the additional effect of the Inzektor monster destroyed cannot trigger.

Inzektors vs. Forbidden Lance
If an Inzektor is equipped with a monster and Forbidden Lance is used on it, then that Inzektor loses all effects granted by that monster, but the monster stays equipped. Using Forbidden Lance on a monster target by Hornet will prevent that monster's destruction.

Inzektor Dragonfly, Zektkaliber, and Hornet
If you destroy Zektkaliber with Hornet while it's equipped to Dragonfly, its effect will trigger twice because the effect doesn't trigger simultaneously.

Hornet vs. Evilswarm Thanatos / Machina Fortress
Hornet's effect is treated as an Equip Spell effect and not a Monster effect. So it can destroy Thanatos and won't trigger Fortress's effect to discard.

Inzektors vs Forbidden Dress.

If an opponent activated Forbidden Dress on an inzektor before they declare effect an inzektor can still equip despite dress preventing targeting. Despite the fact that equips target, neither the effect of the equipping inzektor or the equipped actually target the equipping inzektor. No card effect is considered to have targeted the inzektor.

Inzektor Hornet vs dolkka, shadow mirror, etc.

Hornet counts as a spell effect. If it is already equipped to an inzektor none of the cards mentioned above can negate it’s effect. Same goes for six samurai’s Musakani Magatama.

Guide and Discussion: Inzektor Empty VII. OTK Combos.

Post by Aitch Wed Jun 18, 2014 8:31 pm

VII. OTK Combos.
Combo 1:
You need in hand:
Inzektor Dragonfly
Inzektor Hornet
Inzektor Sword - Zektkaliber OR Inzektor Giga-Mantis

You need in deck:
3 Inzektor Centipede
Inzektor Ladybug
Inzektor Sword Zektkaliber OR Inzektor Giga-Mantis

How to:
Code:
1. Summon Dragonfly
2. Use effect, equip Hornet
3. If opponent has a card on field, go to A; if not then B

A.
3. Destroy the opponent's card using Hornet.
4. Summon Centipede
5. Equip Hornet to Centipede. Equip Zektkaliber or Giga-Mantis to Dragonfly
6. Use Hornet to destroy Giga-Mantis / Zektkaliber
7. Dragonfly's effect to summon Centipede. Centipede effect to add Zektkaliber / Giga-Mantis
8. Repeat steps 5-8
9. Finally, summon Ladybug and use its effect to equip Giga-Mantis
10. Ending Field: 3 Centipede + Dragonfly + Ladybug with Giga-Mantis = 3*1600 + 1000 + 2400 = 8200

B.
3. Equip both Hornet and Zektkaliber / Giga-Mantis to Dragonfly.
4. Destroy Zektkaliber / Giga-Mantis with Hornet. Special summon 2 Centipede with Dragonfly.
5. This is the trickiest part. If you have Ladybug in hand, that would be great. Use it on Centipede and make it lvl 5. Then search for the Zektkaliber and repeat te previous steps in section A.
6. If you don't have Ladybug, then destroy one of your own cards with Hornet.

Thunder Charger.  1600 + 1600 + 2400 + 2600 = 8200 (+ burn damage).

b)Use Hornet with Hopper and Centipede3 to destroy 2 cards your opponent
controls.  Search Ladybug.  1700 + 1600 + 1600 + 1600 + 2400 = 8900.

c) Equip Hopper and Centipede with Ladybug and Hornet respectively.
2200 + 1600 + 1600 2400 + 2100 = 9900.  If you run Cowboy you can make
it here for 10700 (Use Ladybug to make Centipede1 or Centipede2 level 4).
